Flu Information

Here are some Friendly Reminders to help protect you and your family from seasonal illness:

·  Wash your hands frequently with soap and water. If no soap and water is available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer until you can get to a sink to wash properly.

·  Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.

·  Get vaccinated! It is not too late to receive the flu vaccine. Although not as effective as we hoped, the flu vaccine could decrease the duration and severity of symptoms.

·  Stay home from work and school if you are sick.

Common flu symptoms and reasons to stay at home:

·  fever of 100.0 or greater within the last 24 hours

·  cough, sore throat

·  runny or stuffy nose

·  body aches, headache, chills

·  nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea

If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, get plenty of rest! Keep hydrated by drinking healthy fluids. Do not share food, drinks, utensils with others and change your toothbrush.

If you anticipate your child needing medication at school, the Lee County School System Medication Policy and Authorization to Give Medication at School form is available on the system website at http://www.lee.k12.ga.us/pdf/health/Medication-Authorization.pdf

When can my child return to school following an illness?

·  24 hours after fever is gone (without medication)

·  24 hours after vomiting and diarrhea has resolved

·  When he/she can comfortably participate in a full school day
