Mrs. April Trussell is the Lee County High School Teacher of the Year. She teaches 11th Grade U.S. History and AP U.S. History, while also serving as the Student Government Association sponsor.
Mrs. Trussell and her husband, Walter, have three children -- Madelyn and Grant who are students at Lee County Middle School West, and Abigail, who is in the 4th grade at Twin Oaks Elementary. Together the Trussell family enjoys traveling, camping, and playing with their dogs and cats. They also have a passion for mission work and spent part of this past summer doing mission work in Costa Rica.
As a teacher and SGA adviser, she is proud of the relationships she has built with all of her current and former students. Working with children is not only about teaching skills and content, she said, but also about building relationships. “Several years ago I changed my mindset and decided that my classroom would be my mission field, an opportunity to show unconditional love and compassion,” she said. “Intentionally putting God in the classroom has had a huge impact on my students and me. It isn’t always easy, but I choose to be blessed by the opportunity to have a positive influence on students.”
LCHS is proud to have Mrs. Trussell as our 2019-2020 Teacher of the Year.
